May 12th, is International Nurses Day! When talking to patients, we always hear how much they value their nurses! They are always there to listen, to help, to joke with…! They help alleviate the burden of living with neurological conditions. This is why we express our gratitude to all nurses out there for their incredible work and the care they provide to patients.

Nurses are at the center of the care path. With our tools, icobrain and the icompanion app, we try to reduce the immense workload nurses can experience. For example, making patient follow-up and consultation preparation easier with icompanion. We are constantly trying to understand their workflow, challenges and needs, as we believe it is key to bring solutions that will truly impact the healthcare pathway.

On the 28th of April 2022, at the BVNV conference in Belgium, we had the pleasure of meeting over 30 multiple sclerosis nurses. We had insightful discussions and asked them some questions to learn about their experiences. These interactions taught us so much about the reality of day-to-day work in a clinic!

Here are some insights from the poll:

  • The challenge that came up most often was “time”, this was mentioned by over 50 percent of the nurses present. No surprise there though! Other mentioned challenges included communication with patients, administration, staying informed or the quality of MRI scans.

  • When nurses were asked which aspects of icompanion would help them most, the most popular feature was “consultation preparation”, followed by “tests done before consultations”, “education” and “medication reminders”.

  • 68% of nurses indicated to do regular cognitive assessments (like an SDMT) at least once per year but 8% said they didn't have the resources or time to do this regularly. A smartphone-based cognitive test battery might come in handy we think! More on that soon…

Thanks a lot to all MS nurses that shared their insights with us! And to all nurses for their amazing work!
